Mustangs District Champions For First Time In School History

THE MUSTANGS AFTER THEIR WIN

If it seems like their is something special about this team, it’s because there is. The Mustangs added another win to their record after beating A&M Consolidated 9-4 Tuesday night. Although this was another win for the Mustangs, it was a pretty unique win. It put the Mustangs ahead of the entire district by 4 wins, and with only 3 games left in district play West is able to safely claim an outright district title. Just to be clear, THE MAGNOLIA WEST MUSTANGS BASEBALL TEAM IS THE DISTRICT CHAMPION FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY! (I mean what else did you expect?)

Connor Phillips pitched an outstanding game, only allowing four hits. The home plate umpire started to squeeze the strike zone on Phillips late in the game, but he was still able to pitch a shutout through six innings. Pitcher Reid Snook and Shortstop/Pitcher Zach Wall were able to finish off the Tigers and end the game with a strikeout.

The bats were hot for the Mustangs, with Zach Wall scoring a run in the first inning to start it off. The Mustangs shortly left the Tigers behind, scoring six runs in the fourth inning. Austin Maddox had a hard line drive to right center that scored a run, as well as Carson Carpenter’s throw beating single that scored a run. The hit of the night definitely went to Dylan Van Wicklen who had a huge shot down the right field line that turned into a stand up triple, scoring two more runs for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs will be on the road this Thursday for game 2 against A&M Consolidated. Although the District Title is already secured, West plans on finishing district play undefeated and going into playoffs with a lot of momentum. Just remember, If you’re not first, you’re last . . . (in district). Shake and Bake!
